Johnston Oil Club

The Oil Club was formed in December 2013 with 13 members and at the close of our last trading year ending November 2023 that membership had grown to 279. It is run in conjunction with Johnston Oils who not only offer us a discounted rate on the volumes we place but on a quarterly basis make a further donation to our community fund of 1p per litre. This donation as at January 2024 had raised £42,865.64 of which Ballater Royal Deeside through the Johnston Oil Fund had supported local projects with £36,129.61 of donations.  These range from a small sum to enable groups to run a meeting or procure school garden equipment and materials up to larger sums such as last year’s support of Crathie and their much valued notice board.

Membership by residents is not tied to either a contract or membership fee, nor does it stipulate a set volume per annum and whilst for management email contact is preferred it does support telephone ordering for those who are not happy with email.

Joining the club simply requires the setting up of a profile this is not draconian but simply a process that assists the client, as once established, simply requires a request for the amount of fuel needed. That profile covers – location and full address, telephone/ email, special instructions which range from unusual locations to pre-alerts and some make the writer smile as I log them.

The client is given a schedule of the years weeks of delivery and asked to note that a minimum order must be 500L plus – this is simply a contractual legality as Oil tankers are only calibrated at 500L + making any request below that an illegal contract as the driver may have delivered +/- several litres.

Notice is given to the members that the BOOK OPEN and reminds every one of the intended closing and delivery dates and asks for requests with a stipulation that “NO THANK YOU”  emails are NOT required as with around 300 members this could block the system.  All requests are acknowledged.

At the end of the window a price is agreed and advised to members with delivery then undertaken.
